You are not immune to trouble, opposition and criticism, even when you are doing the will of God. Jesus Said, ‘These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33). Opposition and criticism should rather strengthen your character and not to doubt God and what He has called you to do. Doubt your feelings instead of doubting God and His sure promises. He is still in total control.
It will all work out for your salvation. But for your adversaries, perdition! The Scripture said, ‘And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;’ (Philippians 1:28-29).
Bearing witness to Jesus also required sharing His powerful teachings with others. Furthermore, the work includes making disciples of people and then baptizing them. And this was to be done worldwide! ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.’ (Matthew 28:19-20).
Nevertheless, Jesus assured His followers that Holy Spirit would be with them in carrying out the work that He had given to them. Thus, despite the magnitude of the assignment and the violent efforts of the enemy to silence them, the early disciples of Jesus successfully did what He had directed. It is a fact of history that cannot be denied. The worldwide preaching and teaching campaign was an expression of God’s love for those who did not know Him. It gave them the opportunity to draw close to God and receive forgiveness of sins.
The commission to preach and teach also manifested God’s love for those bearing the message, since it allowed them to express their devotion to God and display their love for fellow humans. ‘Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
