Studying the Word of God helps one to mature. ‘As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.’ (1 Peter 2:2). By carefully searching the Scriptures we shall find the testimony of Jesus Christ. ‘Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.’ (John 5:39). This search enables the believer to observe closely the divine Model. It should be a guiding principle which should be followed closely in order to imitate it. As one becomes acquainted with the lifestyle of the Redeemer, he discovers in himself defects of character; his unlikeness to Christ would initiate the eagerness to change.

All the philosophies of human nature have led to confusion and shame when God has not been recognized as all in all. But the precious faith inspired of God imparts strength and nobility of character. As His goodness, mercy and love are dwelt upon, clearer perception of truth; the desire for purity of heart and sanctified thought will be attained. The Word of God trains the mind to grapple with the deepest problems and to pursue the broadest explorations. Take it as your mirror. It will be a faithful monitor, detecting the faults and errors of your character. It will strengthen every good attribute.

That Word, which reveals the guilt of sin, has a power upon the human heart to make man righteous as well. ‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:’ (2 Timothy 3:16). The inspired Scriptures, then, are beneficial for teaching right doctrine and right conduct, setting things straight in our minds and lives, and reproving and disciplining us so that we may walk humbly in truth and righteousness. By submitting ourselves to the teaching of God’s Word, we may become God’s fellow workers.

True faith will always endure test, bitter trial, persecutions and the materialistic systems of a godless society. It will triumph gloriously right through into God’s kingdom of righteousness. ‘For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?’ (1 John 5:4-5). In order to gain and hold on to faith, we need to apply ourselves to building love and appreciation for God’s Word, the inspired Scriptures. ‘Thy Word is Truth.’
