The Scriptures are God’s incomparable gift to mankind, a storehouse of spiritual treasures whose depth of wisdom is unfathomable and whose power for enlightening and stimulating to righteousness exceeds that of all other books ever written. As we dig down to gain knowledge of God’s Word, we will be led to exclaim with the apostle Paul: ‘O the depth of God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge!’

To proclaim God’s Word throughout the earth must have seemed a daunting assignment to that handful of disciples who received it. Consider what was involved. ‘Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.’ (Luke 10:2). They would have to help the people to understand the good news of God’s Kingdom.

Bearing witness to Jesus also required sharing His powerful teachings with others and explaining His role in God’s purpose. Furthermore, the work includes making disciples of people and then baptizing them. And this was to be done worldwide! ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.’ (Matthew 28:19-20).

We are so incredibly blessed to have access to Scripture. It tells us how to live our lives well and helps us understand who God is. It is one of the primary ways God speaks to us but we will miss what He has to say if we don’t open it and read it for ourselves. Be blessed today and bless someone else!
